Random neural firings. No, really.

Have we completely devalued the word "epic" yet?

I haven't had a good ham in a while. I've had deli ham in sandiwches, and chopped ham in salads... but not a nice thick ham steak.

Drama. It's an inescapable aspect of human social interaction. What I don't get is how some people don't seem to want to escape it, and in fact go the opposite direction They seek it out and inflict it on others, manufacture grudges and keep them going for a long, long, long time. What, exactly, the hell?

What happened to all the self-checkout lanes?I liked those.

Children's entertainment sucked just as bad when you were a kid as it does today. Everyone was just less discriminate at that age.

"Ironic" cosplay almost never works.

My husky puppy is 10 months old, and his right ear-tip is still droopy. It will probably always be like that. This is adorable.

I know how this will sound, but.. it never really hits you how much you miss your friends until you spend a chunk of time away. I took a three-week jaunt to Cali this summer, saw wonderful people from across the country again and for the first time, and had a blast... yet by the end of it, I was really, really missing the simple sit-down-and-draw sessions with my local friends. Crap, even this last week-and-change with people out of town or otherwise inaccessible has been a trudge, especially with the weather being so gray.

I really do need to cut down on my soda intake. Moreso. I'm way down as it is, but can still do better. Will never totally quit unless I REALLY have to tho...

Possibly the most uplifting book I ever read was Death From the Skies!, by Phil Plait. It's a very careful, very thorough and realistic look at all the ways outer space can fucking wipe all life on Earth off the face of the universe, and without trying very hard at all. Why is that uplifting? We're still here. The odds of most of this happening are, for lack of a better term, astronomical... and the only stuff with a 1:1 chance are so far in the future mankind will either be long-extinct, or so far evolved beyond what we are now that they'd be unrecognizable and probably left the system long, long, long ago. This is actually really reassuring.

If anyone happened to videotape the They Might Be Giants concert at the NC Museum of art from the 19th... pleeeeze.

May there be champagne for our real friends and real pain for our sham friends.

Cali, where the air is thick but not with moisture

I've been in Cali a week now. Have had a goddamn blast all this time, despite the smog. No, I'm not exaggerating for humorous effect. There are beautiful mountains surrounding LA and Pasadena, only a few short miles away, but you can barely see them through the grimy haze of smog. Or smug. Probably both. It's infuriating.

I arrived in Pasadena last Monday, hanging with long-time friends and some folks I've only encountered online previously. We made the discovery that there, every block has a unique odor when you walk around at night. Caribou and cabbage on one block, magnolia farts the next, and one particularly pungent block, urine on fire. Still, some good restaurants if you're willing to go a few blocks through the reek of socks and skunk pelt.

Saturday night, we got bussed to Paramount studios for a big party with a lot of food (not great food, but it was free and all you can eat), got to see Tyrese "Left Cheek" Gibson and Weird Al Yankovic, and a brief appearance by Michael Bay before seeing some footage from the Transformers sequel in the big theater with realy nice seats. Devastator forming (oh yikes!) and a goddamn brutal fight between Bumblebee and a Constructicon. (The action sequences are far, far better blocked in this one, and way, way more vicious). Got toured around the Paramount lot by a hilarious guy who drove that lot-tour-cart-thingy like he was a road warrior. Saw the corner where Pat Swayze got killed in "Ghost", varous alleys where Buffy slew vampires, and my new favorite place to pee, the studio where they tape Dr. Phil.

Been a little punchy lately from lack of proper sleep... I like my friends, but can't sleep cuddled up to them for a wide variety of reasons, so it's not the sleep I'm used to. My voice is also odd right now, as I've been talking nonstop all week in a very dry atmosphere. I still have it, it's just... changed.

Right now, I'm in San Fransisco, staying with Kimito Pony for a few days. This is my first day with proper online access, so I'm caching up with various peoples. Sadly, she wasn't able to get out of work for this visit, but they were able to lessen her hours (and shove them to the morning) enough to give us time to hang out and such. I'm looking forward to this... Kimi used to live local to us, but had to head back to Cali. Miss her. We'll be hitting SF proper tonight, should hit the Castro district for some "oh dear god I can't beleive it" sightseeing. And totally hitting Japantown again. Didn't get enough time there last visit.

Thursday I begin the trip back home. Down through LA for one last goodbye with that group, then drive across the country with a freind up til Oklahoma. Then I drop him off... and drive to Nashville, where I get to spend Monday with my beloved pet mahoumikekun (purrrrrrs) before returning home Tues night... and hopefully get a lil time with all my local pals who I already miss.

More updates as events warrant. Be safe, be well, everyone!

Into the Wild Brown Yonder

... eyuw.

Wagh. So beat. Trip prep always has me running in circles convinced I'm forgetting something ultravital. Last-minute packings, a brief appearance at the art jam tonight, an early bedtime (probably assisted by drugs)... a dim hope I can get stuff scanned and put up on FA before I go. Way behind on that.

I leave bright and early (in theory) tomorrow, Thursday morn. I plan on being in Nashville long enough to spend some quality awake time with mahoumikekun before getting a good night's snooze. Then it's off down more of I-40, picking up a damn good friend the next night... and on to California for some great times. Tail-end, up to San Fran to spent several days hanging with Kimito Pony, the one who started the furry Meetup group that has made me so many awesome friends.

Checks are deposited. Clothes are packed. Non-net-connected laptop stored away. Art stuff pretty much ready to go. Mi~ke's giant tail awaiting delivery.

Still feeling like there's something missing.

That feeling will likely persist until we hit Arizona, when I'll confirm oh shit I forgot the-

You know what's gonna be fun? Coming back. In that I'll be largely netless most of this trip... FA alone will be crawling with alerts.

T-minus one week...

In one week, I begin the longest road trip of my life. On Thursday the 21st, preferably at the butt-crack of the morning... I am loading up the car and hitting I-40 for almost its entire length, driving from Raleigh NC allllllll the way into California to spend roughly 2 weeks among various groups of friends, including some I've yet to actually have the pleasure of seeing in-person

I've made the trip by car before, mind. Back in December I was a passenger for dear friend Erin, aka Kimito Pony, when she had to move back to San Fransisco. I was only a passenger there, since I can't drive a stick, but long road trips are made infinitely easier with someone in the car with you to keep you company. I spent a couple days in San Fran with her before being flown back home. This time, I'm staying in Cali much longer.

This is a trip I'm incredibly excited about, and simultaneously worried about. I'll be visiting great people throughout... the journey takes me right through Nashville, giving me the chance to see the ever-sweet mahoumikekun again (it's my first overnight stop on the way to Cali... and my last on the way back. Love seeing that boy). The second night, I'm picking up one of my best friends and he's taking the second half of the cross-country with me. (I can handle two days of drive-time alone. Any more and it's time to start looking for people to run off the road to amuse myself.) I get to stop in with Grandma one night too, which is nice. I'll be in the Pasadena area for a week, then my friend will stay there as I drive up to San Fran to spend three days with Kimito. Then it's back down, pick up friend, then driiiive home full of memories and stuff. I hope to be able to stop and say hello to various people along each drive.

Sadly, I won't have the ability to extend the trip further north along the West Coast. There's a buncha people up Washington way I'd love to meet, but it's simply unfeasible right now. But that area's on my list for next summer.

Why worried? It's not the trip itself, really, as I do a lot of road tripping. But we are talking about being gone from home the better part of 3 weeks. I know homesickness will hit at some point. I'm also not sure a biggish check will be coming in before I leave, and while I have contingency plans out the wazoo if it does... I'd still rather def have that money on-hand ASAP. The money issues aren't SO big a deal, as I know how to travel on the cheap. Minimal hotel use helps. I'm good with driving all this time, really... I'm a terrible passenger in my own car.

And I'll be largely offline the whole time. A lot can happen online in three weeks. Oh, I should be able to check my emails, but for the most part... I'll pop in here too and let people know I'm alive, heh.
It's always the prons.

So my FurAffinity page has been getting... okay traffic. I've been happy with the art I've been doing in the last several months, I feel like I've really come along. Rankings and shit like that mean jack to me, so I only occasionally look at things like how many pagehits I get.

Most of my stuff is clean. Some of it lately has had nudity, but frankly as far as nudes go, it's damn tame, and mostly me working out anatomy.

Well, I put up my first hardcore image today, a lil number I sketched up the Thursday before FCN as sort of a practice run and "demo" piece. I'm not immune to drawin' stuff like that... I've done a couple pieces for friends, and a few on commission. Porn art... doesn't REALLY do a lot for me, but it can be interesting. (Or just freaky-weird. Some furries are just... really? That is what does it for you? Which cruel thing should I say in response, so many to choose from...)

Naturally... the hardcore piece has gotten in one day like five to ten times the number of hits of anything else I've done since they got put up. And it's not even anything especially... unique?

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

So a couple weeks back, I was talking on the phone with mahoumikekun and he mentioned his ride to Furry Connection North had fallen through. He jokingly says "wanna come drive me up?" Remember, he's 9 hours west of me, and it's 10 hours from him up to FCN.

But I paused and thought about it. I had to miss FWA with my friends, and that was a real bummer. I've been wanting to go to a furcon, and this was also the chance to meet many of Taryn's closest friends.

So... off I went. And it was an amazing experience. I met a ton of great furs there, first and foremost havoc_wolf , who is a great damn guy (I know you'll take great care of Taryn, heheh). My time with Astarael was brief but wonderful, and I know we'll be talking for a long time... and looking forward to seeing you again at another con! Bandrik, you too... really can't wait to see you again. Sorry our conversation made you several hours late getting home, heh.

After a Friday of us bumming in the hotel room because registration closed up early (mother@$^%), preventing us from attending things, Sat rolls around. I manage to get myself into the art alley... and after a really slow start, wow. Commissions seemed to roll in. I did a ton of badges and a decent number of inked pages. For a first-timer with more or less no previous exposure in the fandom... I'm feeling a hell of a lot more confident in my stuff now. Thanks to every last one of you. One or two pron pieces were commissioned for non-art-alley hours (I'd done a few in the days just before FCN proper for my own amusement and practice... more on that in a bit). By the end of Sat's alley hours I was only putting people on a list and NOT taking money just because I was worried about not being able to get to them. But I burned through that list by the end of Sunday, and even picked up a few other jobs for to be mailed. Met wonderful folks in the art alley too, like mottenfest ! Right now, a handful of the pieces I did are on FA, saved in my favorites (because like a doof I forgot to get pics of them). Sat was my first meetup with Star, who was looking VERY carefully at artists to draw her. She's very particular, and I don't blame her.

Outside the alley, I hung around a lot with Taryn's friends, getting to know them better. Snap/Arty and I spent a good amount of time talking, and really got to liking him. I only briefly went to the rave, which really isn't my thing at all. Yeah yeah, greymuzzle. (sticks out tongue, then rolls it into a tube) Afterwards, there was more hanging out in the hotel room. And Taryn only got cuter and cuter as the night went on, heheheheh.

Sunday, more arting, then some downtime. I'd kinda wanted to check out the dealer room for a few trinkets, but oh well. Late Sunday night I wandered mostly, finally reconnoitering with Havoc and Taryn... and as it turns out, Star and Havoc know each other, and I was invited along for a latenight get-together. The party at her room was fun indeed, and I got started on the commission of her and Errorwolf. By the end of that, everyone was feeling the weekend and winding down. Taryn, Havoc and I eventually returned to our room and there was passing out.

Monday morning... man. How could it be over? There was cleanup and packing, and a lot of goodbyes. We discussed the trip home... and it was decided that Taryn would stay a few days with Havoc, since they barely get to see each other, and the MI group there would pitch in to bus/fly him home after a few days. I took Taryn's new tail home with me since it's like nearly 6 feet long and no way could they ship it without a massive fee, and I'll be seeing him again in late May. I took the chance to drive down and visit my skunkeh friend Somniloquy, crashed with another friend, and finally made my way back home on Tuesday.

Yeah, there's some post-con-depression going on, but I was also beginning to feel the homesick. I spent hours last night plugging in all my new contacts, some conversations with various folks, and catching up on some FA stuff. I have a lot to scan and do, plus workstuff. I have a few announcements to make, but I'll put those in another post.

Thank you to everyone I met at FCN for making it one great week. I can't wait to see you all again.
Just a lil note... made it home safe from the exhausting but exhilarating weekend that was FCN. More involved post later.

Love ya, Taryn, heheheh

When do I get to slow down?

Lord. It's just been a friggin' whirlwind. I got back from a week-long trip to MTAC and mahoumikekun on Wednesday. There's a report of it up on my Fur Affinity page (www.furaffinity.net/user/aloisyous/). I came back to some local shit I frankly don't feel like talking about, which left me with a raging headache. I'm thankful I have such wonderful friends here to talk to about this shit, tho, and they helped me feel a LOT better.

So yeah. After that was Thursday. Because I was dealing with aforementioned shit Wed night, I didn't get much sleep. Thursday is bowling nights, every week. Yeah, I bowl... it's fun. It's throwing a heavy object, knocking things over, and making a lot of noise... and the league I'm in is non-competitive. (And no, nobody wears the tacky shirts.) I DJ there as well, and it's an... odd playlist since while I'm not the youngest member, I'm definitely on the young end of the spectrum.... and I'm 29. It's a playlist that runs from Stevie Wonder to AC/DC to They Might Be Giants to Dance Dance Revolution to Paul Simon to Johnathan Coulton (I opened with "Still Alive, heh, and had several people singing along) to various surf and ska and funk and Southern rock and 80's new wave etc etc etc groups.

Immediately after, I helped a friend of mine at the college across the street (no, really) do his grocery shopping, since he has no car. I don't remember much of the rest of the night. I think I tried to get in early.

Friday? I went to the home of the ever-wonderful artist Devilkitten to help her prepare for her birthday party. The big day isn't actually til Monday, but she wanted a party on Sat. She's an amazing hostess, buying tons of food and drinks and nice stuff for her 20-ish guests. After we got things mostly ready and some of her out-of-town guests were fading fast, me and my dear friend Justin went back to his place because we weren't sleepy yet. Lonnnnnnnnnnnng conversation about a lot of things. Sometime around 4am I think, I complained about stiffness in my right leg, and he offered to work out the kinks. Hnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagllle. I didn't realize how badly I was in need of a massage. He found knots all up both legs, spine, arms, neck... it did me a world of good, and he really only barely scratched the surface, so to speak. I was slipping into sleep on the drive home, the sun up again.

Saturday, after only a paltry couple hours, I had to go to obedience class with my Husky puppy. He's 4 months and almost 40lbs now. Bit of a blur there. From there, it was off to pick up my friends from NCSU (including the guy from Thurs) for DK's birthday. Hours and hours of fun, about 20 people all around the pool and grill. I ate a lot, which is odd, since I really don't eat much. I think I was recharging from the last week-plus. I ended up drawing a piece of art featuring everyone who was at the party, though I've still got one more person to add. Gonna scan the line-work and color the original with DK's awesome Prismacolor markers, and give her the original as part of my present to her. We ended up at Waffle House at 1am for coffee. Me, I just had some OJ, because I knew even a waffle would probably put me into "way too full". Home, some discussion with Mi~ke, sleep...

And up just in time to get up for Easter lunch/dinner with the family. More food. Lots of ham and mac. And chocolatey cake. Urp. I so need to go running with the puppy tomorrow... after I drop a package for Mi~ke in the mail. (Turns out his gamer of Taboo got left in my trunk.) And call my employers to see if they have any projects for me... I have more trips I'm taking, for both business and pleasure, and need to keep the money coming in so I can take those on top of keeping bills paid. Which means more business! Wheeeeee!

But I think Monday will be largely stuff-free.

So yeah. I think Monday will be semi-slow. Thankfully.

The things we do for those we care about...

Like join Livejournal, apparently.

I'm not the most tech-slash-web-savvy person in the world. I don't do the MMORPGs. I don't have the current game systems. I've shied away from Facebook and Livejournal and most other social networking sites. But now I'm here... why?

Well, to better interact with my sweet mahoumikekun and his wonderful friends who I had the pleasure of meeting on my recent trip to Tennessee, plus friends from other lil social circles.

So.

Yeah.

Is this where I say "I cut myself to feel alive" or something?
